Hi All,

I have a Chambers Isaac Haines kit on the way which will be my first build. I was advised not to buy a chisel set, since I won’t use most of the chisels. I was wondering if anyone had a standard tool list (sizes and brands) that they would recommend someone have for a first build. I’m in the “buy once, cry once” camp, so I plan on buying good chisels, gouges, and files. Thanks in advance!

Once this is done, it would be a good candidate for a sticky in the Gun Builders Section.

It get asked several times a year.

Could you reply with a link to a good list from the gun builders forum so people don’t have to bother repeating themselves? I searched it but couldn’t find much info.

Use the search /advanced search function at the top go the page. Click on the little magnifyiing glass. You'll find oodles of threads on the topic.

If you are asking about woodcarving tools, I recommend getting a set. If you don't you are sure to find a need for one that was in the set you didn't buy. The sets contain the most popular and frequently used tools. Plus you will save money over buying the individually.

Makes good sense.

When someone inherits them, they won't think you lost some that way.
