here in northern dauphin county inPa, we have a bird that is very much like the woodcock or snipe, just a little bigger called the mileormore bird, the difference from these and a woodcock ,or snipe and the reason they are called Mileormore is ,they have a 4 inch bill and when they land ,they stick their bill in the coal dirt and whistle thru their butt ,,,and you can hear them for a mileormore.. I've hunted both, greatly prefer woodcock. You stay drier, and woodcock have more meat.
And as a Boy Scout leader, I've encouraged, aided and abetted several 'snipe hunts'.
