    Friends,

I finally have received a suitable early 19th Century smooth-bore musket for my "poor dirt-farmer" impression of the TX Revolution era from one of our GREAT forum members.
(I'm a "living history docent"at The Alamo Shrine.)

This short comment is to publicly THANK the numerous forum members who tried to help me with this search.

The musket is about .75 caliber & is likely either of Dutch manufacture or perhaps came from one of the Germanic States of the War of 1812 era. - It needs a little adjustment to the percussion lock (and perhaps it will be converted back to flintlock at a later date) but should be FINE thereafter. = By 1830-35 there were at least three shops in Captain Shreve's Port (Now: Shreveport, LA) that were converting flintlock weapons to percussion, so there's no rush to reconvert the musket to flint.

    THANKS AGAIN, satx

    BillinOregon,

Unfortunately, I have neither the camera nor the skill to use one to post photos. - When my daughter returns from NY (Noemi is attending a professional women's leadership conference until 02MAR19) , I'll ask her to do it for me.

    yours, satx

I just finished a book on paddlewheel vessels and a whole chapter was devoted to the Cap'n Shreve and clearing The Big Raft ,which took almost 10 years, to open up the Red River to navigation.

Congratulations on your daughter, amigo. She sounds like an achiever -- proof of good parents.

    BillinOregon,

My daughter is a MSEE, is now a "big shot" at our DPS & an expert on computer hardware. = We are VERY proud of her accomplishments.
("Daddy" gets to brag on their daughters.)

I do Texian Army of the People impressions myself... Most recently as a Georgia Battalion volunteer at Refugio/Goliad. It was my first time at Goliad doing impressions... I'm typically at the Alamo.

Like you, SATX78247, I got a smooth-bore flintlock not too long ago. Mine's a Charleville M1766 leger that was tweaked and modified into a faux-Modele 1746 by one or another F&I/7 Year's War or Revolutionary War re-enactor or living historian. I figger there were lots of muskets around the Ohio and Mississippi Basin areas, and that French/Spanish/U.S. Louisiana ended up contributing a lot to Texas independence, so it "fits."

Glad to hear about your acquisition! I like mine, but boy is it capricious. I'm trying to figure out how to get it to fire more reliably.

    Happy San Jacinto Day!

Well, we may have seen one another this year and not known?!

I was the bespectacled Texian guy with white trousers bundled up in a tan blanket due to the cold.
I had a hard time with hang fires during the salute!

At Goliad I was in all white fatigues and the Georgia Bn. "Ubi Libertas habitat ibi nostra patria est" inscribed on the cartridge box...

    DaveC,

I and my confederate were there representing the ficticious brokerage firm of Statler and Waldorf (London and Hamburg).
Just a pair of frontier swindlers mistakenly caught up in your little revolution. ( however during the candlelight tour we represented Texian medical staff dragooned by the Mexican forces into their barracks).
