Well, corn meal seems to work well...first shot was without corn meal 85 grains of my homemade brew thin over powder card "Ritz cracker card" 1 1/4 #6 shot another thin card and a 1/2 well lubed felt wad. Next up was 85 grains of powder, thin card, 1 1/4 #6 shot with 50 grains of corn meal thin card and 1/2 well lubed felt wad. Both shot @ 25 yards. Gong is 8x9. I would say the corn meal is a decent one for hunting. Also a small video of me shooting some steel with 85 grains of powder / .562 ball and a .008 patch with a 1/8 lubed felt wad Patches lookd good!

I typically check out the remnants cloth pile at the fabric stores. I can usually find some 100% cotton high threads per inch cloth there for dirt cheap. I recently got a couple of pieces 44 inch by 15 inches of 100+ thread count cotton cloth for $1.50 total cost. Looks to be .05 inches thick too. Easy to cut into 1 inch strips.
