The difference between 60 and 70 seems crazy drastic to me too.
What size ball, what thickness of patch, what lube, and how much?
I believe the difference of 10 grains has the patches not holding up. Recover some patches from both charges and I'll bet there is a drastic difference in how they look.
Store bought patches that have been on the shelf too long, or too thin is my guess.
Late muzzleloader elk opened today, good luck! I have some concern about 60 grains of Pyrodex giving you two holes, hopefully there's snow like here so tracking is a cinch.
I'll be going out Friday (if work cooperates) and Saturday for sure.
Got a deer to cut up on Sunday.
