Hello,
I recently came into a T/C Renegade in .54 caliber. It has the dual trigger system. When setting the rear trigger first, the front trigger breaks at about 12oz. One thing I noticed just pulling the front trigger alone is rather light. About 2.5lbs…I pulled the lock off and comparing it to another one I have it looks like the former owner had done some polishing; the metal is white as you can see in the photo. (The first three photos are of the lock with the lighter pull)….
Another lock I happened to have; pulling the front trigger breaks at about 6-8lbs and after setting the rear trigger breaks at 12oz…looking at the contact areas ( photos) you see it has that black oxide type finish. My question is; is the lock that has been modified safe to use? I’ve banged the butt of the stock on the bench a few times with the hammer back and a rubber stopper on the nipple and the hammer didn’t fall. Should I trust this when I’m hunting? Thanks.

2 & 1/2 pounds is plenty on an unset trigger. If it were me I'd work on the 6-8 pounder & try to get it down to at least 3 or 4 lbs.

And 12oz is plenty on a set trigger that will only be used in controlled settings/situations.

If you are hunting the lock should be on half cock until you are ready to shoot. you should be unable to get the hammer to fall from half cock with the trigger.
