I am looking for a good preservative for a couple of my pieces. My concern is for protecting the gold inlays as well as the deep bluing. Some things I have read claim to be only good for one thing and maybe not the other. Other products, or combinations of products I have read about claim to be reasonably good for both. And there are some that are good only for steel in the white.:idunno:

Is there something used by museums to protect and preserve the gold/ blued steel surfaces of displayed items that might be readily available?

THe guy to ask would be Jerry Huddleston, he makes those fancy things! But my ignorant response would be conservator's wax. It's used in museums to protect everything, it is a complex blend of waxes.

I agree absolutely with LaBonte. Renaissance wax is the best product available for conserving things. I use it all the time for the outside of my rifles and handguns. Buy it. Use it. You will love it as much as LaBonte and I do.

Thankyou all for the replies. I will order some of that stuff today.

Did you ever wonder what the size of the book would be, if someone was to compile all of the knowledge contained on this forum? :hmm:

I'm new here, but my guess is it would be a volume of books much like an encyclopedia set...
