A search on the I-Net did not provide uh, reliable information of the general kind.

Where might the information be found when a Starr carbine (.54 percussion) has beeen manufactored and to what unit it was issued if the serial number is known? (between 8000 and 8100)

Springfield research service is your only hope of finding out what unit it was issued to, and that is a slim hope. There is information on only a very small percentage of serial numbers, there were no comprehensive records kept. You can pay Springfield research service to see if they have info on your gun or find someone with a set of the SRS books to look it up for you. No idea if anyone have may have the books, if not you can post on some of the more specific forums looking for more information, maybe NSSA.

I have to try NSSA yet. Found some others like Horsesoldiers and a Civil War Forum which I tried first but I am bothered with not accepting my correct email-address, saying it is not a correct email-address. Funny.

Try out different emal-addresses I have and hope that is not due to provider or being european.

I try to get that carbine and I might have tomorrow knowledge if there is a unit to which it was issued imprinted. So far I know the serial number and that the function is working, nipple is free and barrel in its length looks still shootable with visible grooves and lands.

Seems registering on a number of specialised forums isn't possible at the moment.
CASS-City and The firing line which says you registered but need an activation mail, I am still waiting.
No Mail in the junk mail.

Hm, at the range I met somebody who is in reenactment and who has a Trustee who might have ways to find out, if possible.

I will see what happens
