I recently aquired a stainless Colt 1860 Army. I noticed that the serial number on the wedge does not match the rest of the revolver. I know it is like a needle in a haystack chance... Any stainless Colt owners out there with a mis-matched wedge?

I think it would be kind of interesting to locate the other 1860 owner and possibly swap the wedges. :hmm:

Am assuming you are posting about a 2nd Generation Colt re-issue 1860 stainless?

I have several stainless 2nd Generation Colt 1860 Armies. The first two I got new (bought three, sold one) from Davidson's in 1983. Have two others acquired in the past few years. Will have to check them for mis-matched wedges when I go to my secure storage.

Am curious how far off your wedge number is. IIRC the 1860 stainless had starting numbers in the high 211xxx range and ran into the low 212xxx range with about 1379 Colts produced depending on whose information you value.

Any idea how wedge got mismatched?

It was possibly mis-matched by a previous owner who had several 1860's. The numbers are off by only three digits. The revolver ends with #28S, the wedge is #31S. :hmm:
