Hello, I hope everyone is well. I have a question about repairing an unsightly blemish to my rifle’s stock finish. I’m not exactly opposed to completely stripping and refinishing the whole stock, however I’d rather try to smooth over this ugliness if I can.
The pics aren’t all that great because of the lighting, but the finish has been chemically removed down to the bare wood on all the area behind the tang and in streaks down the comb and butt. The rifle is a Parker Hale Whitworth made in 1978 and appears to have an oil finish. It was in this condition when I bought it.
I was thinking a little thinners or acetone on a rag to clean the area, then some linseed oil. Bad idea?
