I had one and wish I had kept it.would like to build another but concerned about patte r n being to open. No round balls just a gun for squirrels out to 30 to 35 yards. Is that to much to expect? Thanks

Yes, 35 yards is too much to expect from a cylinder bore in my experience. Your best bet is a percussion double with choke.

The very best I can get out of my cylinder bore for squirrels is 25 yards max. I had one jug choked by Danny Caywood and frankly did not see much, if any, pattern improvement.

If I were building a choked fowling piece strictly for shot the barrel would be the Turkey Choke barrel from Colerain.

That said, I have been very delinquent in trying the "Skychief Load" (see sticky in the hunting forum or the smoothbore forum).

Obviously Caywood doesn't know how to jug choke. I have made jugged 20 bore fowlers that would keep all of 1 1/4oz shot in an 18"circle @ 25 yards. My jugged10 bore guns will kill turkeys at 50 yards.

Here's a big turkey gun I built that will kill at 50 yards. 38" 10 bore rice barrel with a full jug by Lowell Tennyson. It will take a turkey head OFF at 25 yards.
