So here in southern Ontario Eastern Grey Squirrel season ends Dec 31. Thought I’d get out to my turkey swamp and see what I could scare up. Nothing doing. From 11:00 to 4:30 in a mild drizzle I only saw three greys and they all got away from me. One disappeared after I saw him and looked to my pan to prime it. Another jumped from a maple into the top of a White Pine and I couldn’t find him up there despite sitting and trying to wait him out for 20 minutes. The last took of into a gnarly cedar thicket and successfully evaded me. It was wet and foggy so maybe the rest of them were hunkering down.
Lots of squirrel, cottontail, turkey and deer sign. Saw a flock of what looked like 6 hens, I’ll get ‘em in the spring. Took a few bangs at a board and was really pleased with my pattern. I was shooting 60gr fffg, leather overpowder disc, 1 oz #6, lubed cardboard overshot card.
Anyone else in Ontario have any luck on Greys lately?
