There a lot of us who have been members for a lot less time than you and I find the answers are more interesting and useful than the questions
Agreed. I go back and read old topics frequently.
But, I don't comment on them, or answer years old questions. If I think what I have to offer is of value (not a frequent occurrence), or if a question is raised in my mind by the old topic,,,,, I start a new topic and refer to the old one (sometimes with a link to the old one).
 
I’ve lurked here for a couple years, before I actually opened and started an account.

Those old threads contain a lot of useful information. Just because a thread is nine years old...does not mean that the content is not useful, or that the subject matter is not relevant. Some topics come up multiple times a month, if not weekly…so having a search feature that automatically pulls up threads with related information…AWESOME.
