Very nice piece but wonder why the builder didn't clock the screws.
Probably done on purpose. Many builders of musical instruments as well. The thought was to leave something out, something not quite right (clocked screws for example as deference to the Almighty as the only sense of perfection in this world.

Agree, I don't clock the screws on my builds either. Semper Fi.

Thats a sign of good craftsmanship of someone who will take the time at a simple procedure such as clocking screws for me shows time and dedication was taken to ensure the best product possible within one's craft. Small thing but says a lot about one's dedication and skills. Shooter pup no one said a thing about perfection, just details and taking pride in one's skills. When you get into the types of weapons as posted these are the things one needs to look for, you're paying the price you should expect quality.

I am not talking about the old gunsmiths, I am referencing the here and now, YOU WANT MY MONEY YOU SHOW ME THE QUALITY AND SKILL NOT TO MENTION PRIDE OF WORK. One last thing you have no idea of how many original builders' guns I have seen either in pictures or person.

Do Wheel Locks count?
(I made this from a block of Maple and parts from Dixie Gun Works catalog, pieces of metal, some wire I pounded flat for inlay and some horn, when I was about 26).

Hi,
Then there are my military pieces, which are plain but I take great care about historical accuracy. Most are gone to other homes but, as I wrote previously, they are still my babies, whether a worked over Pedersoli Bess, a militia musket, carbine, Ferguson rifle, land pattern muskets, or a worked over Miroku Charleville:

Maybe those screws were clocked originally. He states that its an older gun, wood shrinks a tad, threads and seating wears a tad, it doesn't take much. Doesn't take one whit away from the gun to me.
dave_person, you sure do some beautiful work and consistantly so. Thank you for showing your stuff.
