I like the idea that Grenadier 1758 stated about the sulphur in the black powder. Come to think about it I've had no bug problems since I started leaving a little powder in the horn.

I'm eager to learn how those Indians found a fridge to put the waxed horn in.
Must have been casino Indians.
Sorry. Casino indigenous peoples.
My full blooded Choctaw Uncle in Law kept his beer in an old fridge in the office of the vast auto junkyard he ran. That would make the practice PC back to the 1960's at least! LOL! Also Iron beer cans and steel church keys. (a church key is a can opener for you folks born after the Pueblo incident.)

In my opinion trash it and go to a slaughter house and get a fresh horn.
You said in post #4 "Something to do and it is a "light duty" pastime" so why ask for opinions?
Go get a fresh horn and that will give you "Something to do and it is a light duty pastime".

Now, after voicing my opinion, I'll have to say, I enjoy repairing old used things, so I would probably get a fresh horn as well as repair this one.

If I repaired the old one and bought a new one, I have 2 to add to the one I already have (plus a brass flask) Really who needs 3 powder horns? Pretty soon I'll have one for each gun!

A dozen on each of the four walls should be sufficient .

One of the things I'm enjoying about it is the fact that it's going at my pace. No hurry in other words.
