I have a 50cal Left Hand Lyman Flintlock barrel I would like to have bored out to 54cal. What days of the week and what hours are a good time to try and get a hold of him. I know I have read here, call till he answers the phone, but he must have some kind of working hours. I work M-F till 4pm and I can't call during work hours because of what I do. So those of you that have contacted him, what time of day and days of the week to you get a hold of him? Thanks for any info. DANNY

Earlier in the day, say 8am, seems best. You can try other times, but he doesn’t answer when he is running a machine. He is basically a one man shop and he sets his own hours. Remember a few years back trying to get hold of him, but couldn’t. He was on a hunting trip I believe.

Wanting answers on a project I just write him a letter with clearly stated questions and include a self addressed and stamped envelope.

I've been to Bobby's shop, and yeah, there's no way he'll hear the phone easily with the machines running. Every time I talked to him was between 8-10 in the morning, but sometimes it took a couple days of trying to get him.

I wonder if he dan do the same for a .50 Renegade I have, turn it into a .54?
Most likely, he can. He bored out my .50 to .54 earlier this year. It's a 15/16" barrel, and he even said there was enough to go to .58 if I had wanted to (would have required cutting threads for a new breech plug, which would have had to be inlet, so I passed on that option).

I had Mr. Hoyt bore out my original Renegade 50 caliber barrel to a 62 caliber smooth bore so going from 50 to 54 shouldn't be a problem. Works great. I got a drop-in Green Mountain barrel, longer than the original and with a round ball twist, as a replacement. This was some years ago so I can't guess at prices or turn around times. But for the cost of the GM barrel and bore work, about 300 bucks, I ended up with a better round ball rifle and a 20 gauge smoothie. And I can switch between them in less than a minute.

I called him at 8:15 last week and apologized for the early call. He said no problem at all and that he had been up since 4:30. Great guy to talk with. Very easy going and personable. Lots of knowledge there.

Would depend on the barrel thickness. I inquired about going from .50 rifled to .54 smooth on a 7/8” straight Colerain barrel. He said that was doable but going to .54 rifled is pushing the limits by cutting new grooves. I wanna turn this thing into a smooth rifle and hopefully lose a few ounces of overall weight in the process so he’s taking care of it for me. Give him a call and see what he says.
