For sale is my rendition of what a Confederate alltered Macon 1842 rifled carbine might look
like. Macons were commonly altered smoothbores. This carbine came to me as a shortened smoothbore with a 26" barrel. The barrel was relined and rifled to Springfield spec with progressive depth rifling. Sling swivels at the butt and front band were added along with front and rear sights. All other parts are original The stock is in good shape except for a chip along the tang. It shoots a .686 semi wadcutter minie. The mould is available from Moose Moulds. It also likes a tightly patched .672 ball over a lightly lubed 12 ga. fiber cushion wad. The wad is used to fill up the .015 deep rifling at the breech. The rifling is .004 at the muzzle. The bore is excellent. I have done nothing to pretty up the carbine as I wanted to keep the antique look. $800.00 + shipping. 20 minies included.
