Sorry I took longer than I thought to post the rules. Been kinda busy... :surrender:

    Traditional Rifled Muskets Only!

    As issued sights only!

    No cannons.

The target is a standard 8.5 x 11" sheet of printer paper with an X drawn thru the center. Other types of paper the same size are acceptable.
The X is optional. You may use any aiming point you desire but the center of the paper will be the center of the target.

    Distance is 50 yards.

Shots are to be taken off-hand.

    5 shots per target.

Targets with more than 5 holes will be disqualified. (Staple/tack holes and torn corners from tape are OK. )

All shots must be completely on the paper. Targets with shots that break the edge of the paper will be disqualified. If you hit the edge, get another sheet of paper and try again.

All 5 shots will be measured from center of target to center of shot and added together.

Smallest total score determines the winner.

Targets that have been mutilated will be disqualified.

All Muzzleloadingforum members are eligible to participate. If you are not yet a member, get registered. It's free!

Members screen name and "Rifled Musket".(So we know who won. )
Please include what kind of musket you used and what the load was. Just for curiosities sake.

    One entry per member.

Multiple targets may be submitted in the same envelope to save postage if more than one member shoots in the same group.

Targets must be received by November 30, 2010 to be eligible.

Targets received after November 30, 2010 will be disqualified.

I didn't check the calendar for what day of the week that is so be sure and get those targets in on time.

Targets will not be returned unless an S.A.S.E. is included.

Good luck, have fun, and be safe! :hatsoff:

Jethro, could you provide a description of what you consider a "traditional rifled musket" to be,
not sure if I have such a thing.

    For the purposes of this contest, the definition of a "Traditional Rifled Musket" is;
A muzzleloading military long arm with a rifled bore and of a style which was in use during the time period up to 1865.

ps. If you don't have one just hang on. There's a rifle match coming up.

I'll answer here in the forums. That may be a question others will ask too.

By "as issued sights" I mean military style iron sights. No add-on aftermarket fancy glow in the dark etc. target sights. Adding a little height is OK. Filing down is OK.

    Aha! Got one:
Took it to the range today; it shoots 6" high at 50 yards off the bench, but if I hold 6" low it will do a less than 2" group in the bull.

Offhand is an entirely different kettle of fish. After 10 shots I finally managed to get 5 on the paper. Gonna need lots of practice between now and Nov.30...or a new offhand technique...

Don't think I'm gonna come in second this time.

Mykeal, I see you are using these contests as an excuse to buy new guns. Very sneaky, I may have to try it myself.

Took me 40 rounds to get good enough to put 5 on the paper reliably. No way I was going to get good enough to be competitive by Nov. 30th. Finally just decided to dig one out and send it in. Entry enroute.

I will exersize my futility tomorrow, I only have 25 mini balls so I might have a real low score.
But it's an excuse for a range trip!

Well....I set out two targets, it took 7 shots for the first one and 6 shots for the second. It's kind of hard to use a 8 inch six o'Clock hold
on a blank piece of paper! I had two mini balls left so I am out of musket shooting until I order a mini ball mould!

2nd place in a field of 2 is getting to be my standard.

Do you offer direct deposit for the prize money?
