Rhode Island flint?

Visiting the shore today. Any chance some of the stones are chirt??

I would think the chances on a beach are between zero & none.... but, what do I know ?

actually stream beds and anywhere there is water action are great places to find chert, IF, it is part of the geology of the area.
Rhode Island? not a clue! but i will googlefoo it and find out.

I wouldn’t count on finding too much along the beach, I’ve tried doing so near Madison and Plymouth. I always have better luck when I’m searching a steam bed.

Colonial ships often used flint as ballast. It shows up near New England harbors on beaches.

Didn’t find anything but we are headed back today. I’ll poke around some more

Odds are low. Maybe, maybe, better luck closer to a historical harbor location. As someone mentioned, you might luck into some old ship's ballast.
