Finally got to shoot the .54 Reneagde I bought on the classifieds here. All I could find for the time being was pyrodex but it worked just fine. I really didn't see a lot of differance other than a little less smoke in my opinion.

Anyways with the ball and patch combo I was given here some time ago it was extremely accurate and I never adjusted the rear sight. Shot all the way out at a good 100 yards on the last shot and hit what I aimed at with an 80 grain load. Made some lubed patches with beeswax and Crisco that also worked great. Clean up was a breeze as well.

Well now that's a coincidence, Heyoka. I just bought a .54 Renegade on the classifieds today, and found this thread in a search. It's been so long since I have had a TC I had forgotten what loads work. Sounds like you are dialed in.

It was worth the 2 year wait to fire it. The rifle handles like a dream, fits me perfectly and is extremely accurate. Couldn't be happier. Even the wife loved it. I'm using .530 ball and .018 pillow ticking.

Shhhhh........don't let this get out. Folks here are not aware of this little known secret!

Not surprised. I've been shooting at 100 yard targets with a percussion 50 cal. Renegade for decades. It will hit accurately every time if I do my part. The rifle is much better than my marksmanship! :haha:

Glad it's working so well for you.

Jeff
