Doing my second bear at the moment. The first I rendered a couple of years ago came out a soft, snow white grease. This one is a very pale, yellowish oil. Same equipment, technique and temperature used on both. I would prefer the grease. Is there a way to process a bear to get grease instead of oil? Thanks

mine is grease at any temp under 65* above that it turns to oil. i mix 75/25 bear grease/beeswax. even then my patches are kinda greasy at 70*+.
i don't paint my old Red Skin carcass, because i am a tame Red Skin. actually i hate the smell! And my Scot's wife would make me sleep in the barn.
i also found if I keep the rendering pot just rolling and get the cracklins out just as they turn a lite brown the grease stays whiter. any smoking and it darkens. smoked oil sometimes is so dark i can't see through a pint jar. but when cooled it turns a gray tone as it turns to grease.
