I have come across a Remington New Model 1858 in amazing condition, serial number is 470XX, blueing is deep blue and about 90%.
The grips have a cartouche of BH on the grips
The letter "C" is marked on the trigger guard, in front of the trigger guard.
Could someone direct me to a site to tell me more about this beautiful gun.
Best regards!
Fred

According to Dixie Gunworks catalog #160, page 651, BH was Major Benjamin Huger. This should only show on the left grip.

The serial numbers for the New Model Army range from 15,000 to 147,000.

The barrel stamping should read:

Patent Sept. 14, 1858
E. Remington & Sons.
Ilion, New York. U.S.A.
New Model

Before you put any money into the gun, have it checked out by experts.

Over the last 150+ years there have been thousands of counterfeit Civil War weapons made and sold to unsuspecting buyers.
