Remington 1816 value please........

I have run across a Remington 1816 (50 caliber flintlock). I believe that a very limited number of these were made several years ago. I never thought I would find one in unfired condition for sale, but, I have. Can anybody give me an idea what this rifle is worth? Thanks!

I have seen them on the Auction sites for anywhere from $1750.00 to $5000.00. Remember all of the Rifles were different as far as finish etc. Which would, at least for me, have a great deal of difference in the price I would pay.

There are two on Guns America now. One for $2200.00 that looks good and one for $1850.00 that has way to dark a finish on the stock for my taste, that is sold pending funds.

The guys selling them got ripped off and are trying to get their money back. Can't blame them for that, but the guns are still essentially used Hatfields and worth about the same price.

I have seen, and handled several of these rifles.
Their fit and finish is not very good, however they are embellished with poor engraving and gaudy finish...too bad they represent fine early Remingtions.
They are not worth 2k+....maybe $200 at the most.
They actually look like they were made by the same firm that made all of the junk Winchester replicas

I have rifle number 424. It shoots good. Have had no misfires. The rifling is very good. I have seen bad reports on this rifle. I like mine. It is like every other rifle. With proper patching practice. Working up a load I found with pillow ticking and a mixture of my own recipe for lubricant it is very accurate. I don't spit lub. I fry my patch material in a skillet with the lub.start the ball trim patch then ram to a mark on my Ramrod same amount of pressure on powder every shot. lubricant. Am very pleased.. and I clean my black powder firearms well.

They were made by Hatfield. As stated above, poor wood to metal fit, gaudy finish, fake barrel pins and inlays, The barrel is fastened to the stock with screws through holes in the ramrod thimbles.

I did not say they were not made by Hatfield. I guess the fellow that assembled mine did a good job. Besides I bought this one cheep at a estate sale. It is as good as my Thompson center Hawken I have two of them. I just said it shoots good. I am 72 years old. Got my first black powder fire arm at age 14 a original 36 colt cap and ball. Found it in a trunk. In Cleveland Haden,s house. In East Texas. Gave 25.00 for it. His father took it off a union officer on the Mansfield Louisiana Civil War battle field. Mr. Haden was a Confederate doctor. I have 12 black powder front stuffers .Also have black powder cartridge rifles. From 40x65 to 50x110s.

I'm not at all contesting what you said. Just offering my opinion on them to the author. Glad to hear about your collection.. Sounds like mine except my 73 year old shoulder would never tolerate a .50-110. Cheers.

I can not think of any commemorative guns that are worth owning.
