I grew up not far from Prairie du Chien, WI, which is on the Mississippi and was an important site where the French, and later the British, traded furs with the Indians in the 1600-1700's. Does anyone have any idea what rifles the French and/or British fur traders were carrying during this era?

You would be hard pressed to find a rifle there at that time smoothbore fusils/trade guns from the different countries would be the norm, untill the late 1700's then probably not many traders in the fur market would have them
