Pre 1800 Missouri history is closely tied to the French especially before 1770 or so. The traders and voyageurs were up and down the Missouri river yearly from early 1700's on and they did not stay on the river they were stopping and trading and living with the local tribes. Guns of the period would have been French.

Learn the history of the French in colonial Illinois and you will learn the history of 1700's Missouri.
