Find a Dixie Gun Works catalog in the back they loaded a modern barrel full and two balls and set it off. (remotely) and the barrel did not break.

Looks like the cone took damage from hitting the ground.

As far as duplex loads, Ive blown modern firearms doing this. (only once, was blind for 10 months).

I even did a grain of green dot behind 68gr black an a 405gr pill.
Did not hurt anything, but had way more recoil.
 
I wouldn't hesitate to use 4F in my .40 or .50 if I was in a pinch and it was all I had. I can't imagine that a normal load for whatever caliber and a patched round ball could create enough pressure to damage anything.

Do stupid stuff and win stupid prizes.
