I use heavy aluminum foil, spindle it on a mandrel and fold the ends like a paper coin sleeve. It is easy to clear the bore with a worm, and generally comes out in one piece. Plastic will melt, and paper comes out in pieces. My cannon has a rifled bore, so aluminum is easier to remove in one stroke.

I us aluminum foil in my smooth bore cannon and its mostly gone at firing. What little is left comes out on the mop.

I second that. I use aluminum in my howitzer and it works great. We also use aluminum in our full scale parrot. After grabbing the aluminum with the pole if you apply a little pressure upwards towards the barrel it works great.
