Congratulations again Brian! Your on a roll. I like your rifle. Did you build it? Are you still building longbows?

Quit bows after 57 in 2 years.
I built a few flintlocks now.

I bought a DMAP doe tag for a two-day hunt for the late flintlock season. I have a friend that lives up there in Potter County.
Took off work Thursday and headed up at 4:00 a.m. in time to hunt at daybreak. Hunted most of all day Thursday and Friday.
We were mainly hunting state forest and while we saw deer, most of them were scurrying around so fast there was no shot opportunities.
I told my buddy Nate, I just need one to stand still for 5 seconds within 75 yards....
About an hour before dark this evening, we left a spot to call it a day.
While driving back I looked in a bottom and saw a doe feeding.
Whipped it back around to where we just were and eased up the creek bottom.
There were some spruce trees that allowed us to ease in there without being seen.
While I knew pretty well the area I thought her to be in, I couldn't see a deer.
I crouched low behind some goldenrod and continued.
I then saw the white outline of a tail. She was feeding directly away from me about 70 yards.
I slipped in closer and closer to get to where I could get a better shot.
Looking down at times to get close when I looked up she had me made.
The front leg stumped into the ground, you know the typical thing they do! I had the cock back and shouldered quickly.... Settled on the crease and squeezed.
When the smoke cleared 2 tails bobbed away.
I told Nate she was toast.. But could I be sure?
I certainly thought I was, it felt right, I was solid on her when it went off.
Sure enough 52 yards there was hair, then blood then good bubbly blood.
She only went about 75 yards.
4:25pm, and I just killed my first Potter County big woods deer with a flintlock, with only minutes left in the calendar year.
That's 4 this season for the new .45!
Ol Leroy did it again!
Can't get enough of this stuff, the history, and heritage... It all runs deep. God's blessing into a new year. Have a happy new year you all!

Congrats on your Flintlock trophy! What part of Potter were you in! I hunt Southwoods area. Brother has a camp there! The one picture of the timbered hillside looks vaguely familiar.

Watched video of rifle build, fabulous, you did an excellent job. And then to harvest a deer with it a nobel pursuit. Happy New year and keep shooting straight!
