I used a bag when hunting but for trips to the range, a khaki Army ammo box was used. The "stuff" for each gun is kept segregated in the shop in a large plastic bag and is "moved" to either the leather hunting bag or the ammo box depending on the activity.

Large ziplock bags are "see through" and can be checked w/o removing the parts.

I'm lucky w/ my hunting bag....not being a "what if" guy, a minimum of "stuff" is in the bag which makes it lighter and less jumbled up......Fred

Everything I need to service my .54's is in one haversack and for the .58 its in the tarred haversack.
1: Old M14 cleaning rod set in a tarred pouch
2: tin with rammer, patch puller, breech scraper and ball puller (yes I've pulled a couple)
3: 2 small tin containers 1 of dish soap, other with oil
4: patches for cleaning
5: small flask of 2F powder
for the .54's a pouch with 4 flints
for the .58 a tin with 50 musket caps
6: nipple wrench/ screw driver in both bags
7: vent / nipple pick

I have 5 flintlocks and they all have their own pouch/horn.

Heck, putting together a new pouch is one of the joys of buying a new gun.

I am going through the same thing. 12ga, 56cal, 45cal, 32cal. All the shot and bullets, patches, wads and 3 different powders. The possible bags can get a bit expensive. I got to looking at a camera bag I have and it would work great with the pockets, shoulder strap and everything it has. Started looking at them at Wal-Mart.com and there are tons of them at very reasonable prices. I think I might get a couple so I can get organized like the rest of you guys.
