Here is my fowler short starter for patched balls;
Looks neat, Eric.
Somewhere in his house is a table leg 3 fingers shorter than the rest.
ROTFLMAO!! That was GREAT Humour !!
Actually as a Boyer, I'm sure Eric always has extra/scrap wood he can make such things from.
looks great! gotta remember that next time i'm on the lathe
It is osage, made from bow wood scrap and really works well as it it turned to just slightly less than bore size.
Sorry, about the improper spelling of bowyer, Eric. Didn't realize it until too late to change it.
I don't sweat the small stuff Gus.
On my starter; I pop the ball just inside the barrel and cut the patch then use the rest of the length to get the patched ball past my jug choke, I made it a little long on purpose.
that's a short starter!
My 1850's 12G. sxs ramrod has a button on the end also. Never understood why till I read this post though. Makes a lot of sense now.
I solved the problem of getting wads down a choked bore by selling the shotgun.
Lovely looking starter, thanks for the idea. Donation to charity imminent, where’s me lathe?
