Golf ball cannon only went poof with 20 gr. of powder. Ball went about 30 feet. Would a wad improve the shot? Maybe a wad and more powder. experience?

Increase powder five grains at a time, until it goes from "Bloop!" to "disappeared!"

250gr is the minimum charge for my 1" bore cannon.
Don't know exact grain weigh but I use an old plastic 35mm film can full for load measure. 1.25" bore
Phil, do you have any idea how far that load shoots? Curious.

We found a golf ball a mile away but the lead ball I try to hit something so I can recast them.
Pretty much in the 200gr camp here. I shoot steel balls also, they can be dug out of the backstop and reused.
In the video, you can hear the ball hit the 100 yard backstop.

More powder.
Do not tightly patch anything in a cannon, pressure is your enemy.
You want windage (loosness) in a cannon so it wont become a pipe bomb.
Example-my 3 pounder is 2.91 bore, the ball is unpatched 2.85.
