would like to see pics of your poor boy rifles, especially ones that are stocked in walnut.

Sorta weird half Lehigh, half SMR I found in an estate the other day. 40 cal, straight barrel, no cap, wood left thick at muzzle for sturdiness. No patchbox, all iron, no decoration at all. No buttplate. Has a small 2 inch rectangular piece of horn or bone as a toe plate.

One thing I will absolutely have to do is take that nub off the top of the butt. It won't do for traditional arm/bicep crescent butt shooting and it dang sure won't do for tilting back on a squirrel. It is fairly wide butt like an early Virginia or Lancaster, about two inches through the middle and similar at the top of the butt so it doesn't exactly hook into the shoulder. Thus I'll flatten the top of the butt to sit in the shoulder pocket a little better. Might add a buttplate as well to balance that straight barrel, as it is quite front heavy compared to a larger caliber or swamped gun.

My new Kevin Blevins 40 cal Appalachian Poor Boy.

Yes it is horn. Kevin is very knowledgeable about history and guns in the Appalachian states. I wanted a good representation of a poor boy rifle and I think he nailed it for. There are a couple of upgrades and I am pleased what he put together for me.
