The projectile is stuck. The rod is broke off and extractor is still in the projectile. Why would a person want to risk damaging the gun? Why make the situation potentially worse?
Not sure how it could damage the gun by shooting it with a few grains of powder the ball puller should not be able to touch the barrel so seems it would be safe

Dump some WD40 down the barrel, and remove the nipple. Use a good air compressor with air blow gun that has a pointed rubber snout to get a good seal. Make sure compressor is regulated for 80 PSI or better. Point the gun in a safe direction and your problem will be gone.

He tried to shoot it out and it didn't budge. While some bullets can be blown out. A compressor just doesn't have the horsepower in this case.

I wouldn't do it. I would never recommend it. But I also have rifles that I really like and replacing them would be very difficult.
Maybe if I had a cva I might do it just to see the sparks of the rifling being ground off by the puller.

Did you read the part that there is a broken rod and a ball screw attached?
Shooting that out is a horrible idea.
Yes...and I would still shoot it out unless the owner has a very strong air pump.
If it makes the shooter feel safer, lay the gun on a picnic table ( pointed a safe direction ) on a towel & pull the trigger from a distance using a string.
About 20-25 grains 3F is all it would take.
Been there done that.
Guilty.

I have no words. Clearly you must have easily replaced guns. I would never abuse my guns like that.
Shoot it with a string🤣🤣🤣🤣

Me too but you cant convince some people it is safe and the puller will not touch the barrel it should be centered in the ball or bullet JMO

Only a maniac would do something like that!
I'd tie it down to an old tire and pull the string while I was standing behind a tree! :)

BAM! Exactly.

The bullet and patch has already been impressed by the lands/grooves. The bullet isn't going to do summersaults down the bore. Taking out the rifling, the picnic table, the old tire, the tree and the neighbor kid across the street.

Shoot it out.

Most you will get from co2 is 2000psi, and that assumes a perfect fit on the tip of the device with no leaks. May or may not be enough to get stubborn rounds out, I've had 3000psi HPA not move a 357 down the barrel of an airgun. The cold from the co2 might cause the lead to contract, but probably not.

I only have flintlocks, its pretty easy to trickle some 4F in the vent if your patient. Works like a champ and you already have everything you need. A minute or so tops.

If I had a TC or other inexpensive percussion gun I might try something else.

Re-read the OP's post. Said it was a Maxi-Ball, not a patched round ball.

My Traditions is an M6x1 thread, make sure you get the correct thread. You can get more than you will ever need for $10 in fittings.

I might squirt some oil in from the muzzle too.

How well do the CO2 devices work? I've been thinking about getting one, or using a little bottle with my airgun compressor to have HPA to blow out mistakes.
I bought a CO2 (BID) air gun. Did not have the pressure to remove the dry ball. When I got home from the range I pored some oil down the barrel. I put my air compressive set at 140 lbs on the nipple. Blew the ball and patch out easily. Keep it pointed in a safe direction. The ball came out fast.

Cool....I've never tried that, but looks simple enough to me using the grease gun like in the video.
Only once at a shoot while jabbering with next door neighbors shooting their guns down range I dry loaded a ball.
I took the nipple out.Poured in about 10 grains of fff.Put a cap on it. and fired it out down range.

I disagree!. If the PSI is there with a good seal the obstruction will come out. One of the aforementioned is missing.

No charge behind the maxi ball. The hickory ramrod broke off in the barrel when trying to remove the bullet with the extractor tip. The bullet is seated at the breech plug. Removed the nipple and used a fine wire to poke pyrodex into the opening, four tries with this method and it didn't budge.

Had the barrel with a gunsmith for two months. He was not a musketloader specialist but he couldn't get it out.
If you havn't "dry balled", you havn't been shooting long enough! lol. I am the kind of guy that breaks a hickory ram rod on the first trip to the range. lol. Buy a range aluminum ram rod. Cain's Outdoors used to sell unbreakable plactic ram rods. Now they are just selling off what's left of their inventory on ebay. Anyway, you have to get enough powder in through the nipple to shoot it out. Crush a small amount cause you can get more powder in that way. If your lousy gunsmith put oil in there? you will have to remove the breech plug, unless you can get your broken ram rod and worm out? Good luck.
