I just read a post that pewter melting point is between 338 and 446 and becomes molten at 563F.
Can I use my small cast iron pot and put the pewter in it and in the oven at 450F and pour that way. Last time I used a torch and got it way to hot.

I use a small ladle to melt lead or pewter in with a hardware store propane torch then I just pour the melted lead/pewter in the form - let cool then shape. No need to get fancy with a melting pot. When the lead/pewter melts give it a bit longer then pour. It is a good idea to heat up the barrel with a metal rod inserted into the bore.
