Well, I'm about to start on an adventure this year.
I acquire a third Pedersoli Bess in a couple days. I will take the one in the worst shape to do this since it will be virtually an entire remanufacture:
My other besses including the two 'P''s I already have are dedicated to other units/uniforms/uses.

Since I can't get a 1756 Artillery Carbine (has been on order since April 2020), I'm going to modify a Pedersoli 2nd model long land pattern.
Anyone else attempt such a project? If so, do you have any tips to make the process go a bit more smoothly?? It's a daunting thought, and I've already procrastinated a full year longer hoping for a shipment.

Hi,
The link below takes you to a long thread I posted very recently that covers a lot of details if you are attempting to turn a Pedersoli Bess into anything more historically correct.

The short of it is, Pedersolis cannot be worked over to make a really historically correct gun. The butt stock and butt plate are about right size for a carbine but the tang is incorrectly shaped and too short for the artillery carbine. The artillery carbine uses a smaller carbine lock that is 6 1/8" long and the older rounded side plate. The wrist of the stock is too long giving it an incorrect and awkward shape. I urge you to get a copy of Bailey's "Pattern Dates for British Ordnance Small Arms" so you know what the 2 artillery pattern carbines actually looked like. India-made reproductions are not very accurate references for historical details.
