So, rather than ruin a perfectly good bore brush. Create a corkscrew out of a length of coat hanger wire (or similar stout wire). Make the corkscrew about 3 inches long. Now screw that cork screw onto that bore brush (if you get the twist of the corkscrew correct, it will wind around the shaft of the brush and not cut through the bristles). Now run that down the barrel and retrieve your patch.
