Enclosed are a couple of images of a original over and under percussion shotgun in 24 bore which may be of interest to members . The gun has 30 inch Damascus barrels early back action lock with the date of 1826 stamped on the steel butt plate , no proof marks ,Continental {Italian?} and a carved walnut stock

Nice looking shotgun. I assume the sling swivels were added at a later time.

Were guns like that used much for hunting or used more for other shooting events?
You will find that most Continental guns were fitted with sling swivels from the flintlock through to the modern guns. Has for this guns use it would have been for small game not forgetting that on the Continent small songbirds were shot has most of these birds were migrating in flocks heading south for the winter
