Got this fella the other day with my original 1861 Colt Special Musket, manufactured in 1863. Loaded with 60 gr. of powder (government load, if I am correct) and a 510 gr. Minie Ball @ 1000fps, chronographed. My Missus bought this rifle 20+ years ago as an anniversary gift, and has been my main hunting rifle since. Love her and the musket!

Now that's a deer worth writing about!

I hunted with an original Springfield musket that belonged to a friend of mine way back in 1967. As I remember, I shot the exact same load and Minie Ball combo as you did with the Colt. That one was not particularly accurate, however, and any shot we took had to kept below 50 yards.

Again, great buck!!!!!!

I shoot an original Charleville .71 cal rifled barrel with .69 patched ball 45g 2F. It is extremely acurate at 50 yards with 3/4 shot edge cutting groups. Not as steady as i used to be, paper targets at this stage but looking forward to testing on kangaroos

Congrats on a nice buck and a beautiful musket! Just think if muskets could talk all of the stories that one would tell!
