Here is an antique, museum quality mid to late 19th century longrifle made by Anderson Lamb of Jamestown, Guilford County, NC. Probably built between 1840 and 1857. According to research, Anderson Lamb stamped his guns A. LAMB until his son Jesse joined him as a business partner and he then changed his company name and stamp to A. LAMB & Co. Jesse Lamb would have reached the age of majority in 1865, so I think that's roughly around when the stamping changed. Its Jos.h Golcher Lock only has full cock, typical of such rifles, and will cock when of the stock but not in the stock. Set triggers seem to be in good condition, and may just need adjustment to allow for full lock function. The bore is rusty, and the nipple and drum are corroded, but not beyond hope, although the nipple would need replacing if restoring to shooting condition and inspection of the barrel is highly recommended if intending to shoot this gun. There is some minor corrosion on the outside of the barrel, but it looks pretty great and may have already be restored to some extent by a previous owner. Approximately .36 caliber, with deep rifling. It has a nice artistic design at the muzzle. Beautiful curly maple stock and brass furniture. One of the ramrod pipes has come off the underrib, but thankfully it was saved and still on the ramrod when i got the gun. A competent smith could reattach it. Stock is worn at the toe, but no significant missing wood and the barrel is secure in the stock.
I purchased it in an online auction but have no provenance aside from its features and the builders stamp on the top flat behind the rear sight.
Asking $975 plus shipping, and I would prefer to sell it to someone in North Carolina to keep this exemplary piece of history within the state. However, it is for sale to whoever will purchase it within the CONUS. I'm willing to hand deliver it within a 1 hour drive of Albemarle, NC. PM if interested. Check, MO, or cash in person accepted.
