I believe this is a 1842 Austrian musket imported during the Civil War and cutdown for mounted use. It is a bit of a guess based on regional history and I certainly can‘t be certain when it was converted to the current configuration. I do know that Thomas Riggins converted muskets to shotguns for mounted troops in Tennessee and this gun came from a Civil War collection here in Tennessee. The 22” barrel is .75 caliber and is smooth bore. The lock is unmarked and the function is weak. There is a small crack opposite the lock but the musket is solid overall. The gun is brass mounted and the only markings I can located are the initials and numbers on the side plate. The gun has a great patina and would make a nice display piece as is or could be used as the basis for a project. $300 shipped in the lower 48.
