The real deal, the original. Own an 1861 Springfield that's no doubt seen service in the Civil War for less than an ArmiSport. Originals sell themselves. Why shoot a copy, when you can shoot the real McCoy?
Dated 1861. It's definitely seen 4 years of hard service, and probably State Guard use after the war. It's not a safe Queen or a museum quality piece. It's been ridden hard and put away wet, and no doubt has seen the Elephant, but if you're looking for a shooter grade '61, without spending big $$, this is it.
It appears a Trapdoor trigger guard was fitted or from a '63 Springfield/ 50-70 Trapdoor?
Has a wood chip missing from what appears to be someone removing the barrel carelessly.
Lock is good and tight, holds on half and full cock , trigger drops the hammer. Works 100%.
Rifling looks sharp with some expected frost. I would not hesitate to fire this. I bought it from a reenactor who says he live fired it. I never fired it so I can't personally say how it shoots. The barrel is nice and tight in the stock and the bands fit well. No slop.
$900 firm, first I'll Take It , gets it.
You can find nicer ones, but you'll pay for them and they aren't getting cheaper.
If it's so cool why am I selling it, you ask? Because I have another one in similar condition and I'm trying to fund an original 1842 .
Please no lower offers and no trades. This is a good deal, get on it. Clearing out the closet sale.
