What to do? Braze or tig? Throw it out the ahop door and walk away. Im just unlucky i guess. Knocked my SMR over at the range and cracked the nose of the stock. So i figured i would four a nose cap. Then scope creep sets in. I really didn't like the sanding and bleuing of the barrel so i would redo it too. Just got done cleaning the barrel up for blue application and stood the barrel on it nose on a towel. Turned my back and down it went. And the popsicle tang end snapped off.

Wow, maybe it’s best to walk away, carefully, from it for a day or so. You can gather your thoughts and get input for the best fix(es). And maybe give the bad JuJu spirits time to leave.

As a tig welder, I say tig it. But that depends on your skill level.

Options are many
Replace the tang/ plug
Attempt to weld it
Make a homemade repair
After crying, and turning the air blue I would make a homemade repair
My first idea would be make a bone insert for rear screw. File the end of flat. Drill and countersink a wood screw in the back of the tang and have a one of the kind gun.

Yes,Kibler. After looking at it for a bit. I just went in the house. Nothing to be done to it for now. I really didn't want to clock another breech plug and try to match the tang up. I feel I'll go the tig route first. If it jacks it up ill get another.

Don't have a tig but if it was me I wouldn't hesitate to mig it then use a file on it.

That happened to a friend's rifle. He had it welded filed then polished it. It looks like nothing happened.

Not exactly the same but my uncle who is gone now repaired a lot of similar delicate parts like that. First he would turn a brass plug to fit the hole to keep the alignment and act as a heat sink. Weld it then file back to shape. He was a tool and die maker. I think I'd try to repair it before replacing the breech plug.

I realize the OP did not remove his for cleaning but every few months, someone will ask if you should remove a pinned barrel for cleaning…This is why most experienced shooters say no…

That's a no brainer for me, I'd weld it up if I wanted 'as new' and I'd braze it if I were going the aged route like many originals have been repaired.

I'm all for fixing it one way or another just cause it's so satisfying as opposed to the throw away approach. That said id try to fix, probably fail and end up throwing away.

I will call the welder that tigs. I don't trust that mig in my hands to spot that thin piece. It'll either look like a pile of buggers or melt away would be my luck. I'll update after the holiday weekend.
