What is the recipe to make the mercuric ones like they used to have in the 1800's? I want some of those anyway. To hell with the CCI and Remington ones that the priming compound falls out of! haha

Not only are #11 caps hard to find but musket caps are also almost unavailable in my area, but I found some locally. I converteted my sidelock TC Gray Hawk over from #11 to musket caps and glad I did. The dealer had 2000 availaible and I bought 300. And get this, for only $5.00 a tin of 100ea. Unbelievable!
Just converted my TC Hawken today to Musket nipple.

Well actually ylou DID, depending upon interpretation: "Ship all day to friends in the conus." If I were an ATF official, I might choose to interpret that as "I ship all day to friends in the conus."

I don't like HAZMAT fees any more than you do, but I DO understand why certain things are considered hazardous materials. Rools is da rools and posting something that would bring unwelcome attention to oneself is a bit more risk than I would like to assume.

Now, this is still America and this forum is still a relatively free speech medium, so you can post whatever you want so long as the Mighty Moderators allow it. That said, I would respectfully suggest that in matters of shipping hazardous materials or suggesting that others could do so, discretion is the better part of valor, if The Bard will forgive me.
I respectfully disagree.

just think about this, in America, the greatest country in the world! we are scrounging around for what should be common items! and wringing our hands with glee when we are thrown a few baubles like we have won a great prize! it really makes me sick! sick to think a short couple of years ago we were on the path to true freedom and real independence when our republic was hijacked and flat out stolen! and now this is what we are becoming! but like an installed demented low IQ mental midget puppet once said, expect less,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Darn right! And I mean that, no sarcasm.

I think you'll like it as they are much easier to handle, especially with cold hands or gloves. The new CCI caps are not as strong as the older ones I have read. Not shot any yet as I have almost a full tin of the older CCI caps.
From what I understand is that CCI was sued because one of their older stronger caps came apart and lodged a sliver of copper in a reenactment guy's eye. Dummy, wasn't wearing shooting glasses I guess. Anyway a crazy jury awarded a bunch of money to the dummy and CCI lowered the amount of explosive in their caps. They were for awhile labeled as "Reenactor Musket Caps", now they are labeled "Multipule Use Caps". For whatever it's worth.

This multinational corp owns CCI, Federal, and Remington. I would guess they won't let anyone else in the market, hence the ridiculous regulation to make components for ammunition. Probably not real high on their profit list. I would imagine if a company that huge says they can't keep up with demand they are totally full of it. I mean you own half the world, how would you not have the resources?

They own an amazing number of companies that we rely on! Gawd, what if they decided to shut us off for some damn political reason or being forced to. I just don't know as I am just a common man but I don't like seeing the shortages of supplies that we need. Supplies for such a harmless non-threatening hobby. Thanks for your response.

Hi ETipp, Try KYGUNCO. I orderd and received 4 tins CCI#11 @ $12 a tin a little over a month ago. I was helping my son in law get what he needed for an inherited rifle. I did not even have a ML yet. That got me hooked. Now I own one and have a another confirmed cap order w them on the way. They are legit for me, at least. The standard #11s have been working great for us w T-7, 2f in one TC Hawken and one Traditions. I purchased some extra TC Hot Shot nipples at TOW for the TC and they did not work at all w the T-7. The flash hole in the Hot Shots is very noticeably smaller than the holes in our stock/standard nipples. I think between that and the vent holes in the top of the Hot Shots probably being a pressure release on the cap flame, the T-7 put them out of bounds for use in that TC. I am going to take them to my smith to have them bored out to about .035. I don't have the set up to drill that small of a hole. I read somewhere on the forum that someone purchased Hot Shots from 2 different sources and they had 2 different flash hole sizes. Weird, but believable in these days of outsourcing just about everything. Good luck on your cap hunt. Just saw your post and did not want to wade through 9 pages of this, so if I got scooped by someone else, my apologies. SW
Wowser, I've been looking for some #11 caps but not having any luck. Anyone happen to know where they can be had?

No problem. I appreciate the post.

Already received my shipment from them. :)

I totally agree with you! It makes me sick too, to see what is happening.

Entreprenurial capitalism is a great idea that, historically, has only been tried for a few short years in any country before being hijacked by the elites. [Unlike socialism, which is just a plain, bad idea.] Every time it gets going, it only takes a blink for a private consortium of bankers to end up on top. [Interestingly, they miraculously end upon top in most socialist countries as well. Hmmm...] They pick the corporatist winners and losers under them through the control of currency and 'democratic' elections, and regulatory capture ensues. End of experiment-period. The myth that is now called capitalism should merely be called State Sponsored Usury. Corporate profits are only a crowbar for getting what they crave-power. While our hobby of ML poses no real threat to these people, as a group, we are generalized into a category of "wrong think" that must be periodically reminded of who wields the sledge hammer. They are not threatened by our muskets, but we might be thinking..... For those that buy into the hobbyist induced 'shortages', maybe considering the trainloads of caps, primers, powder and bullets produced for the War Between the States, WW1 and WW2 alone, while drinking your Koolaid, can induce a bit more sobriety. Folks were still reloading w surplus WW1 powder when I started. I have some from WW2. For now, at the local level, keep a sharp memory of the gougers for present and future boycott. Realise, as well, that not all higher prices represent gouging. Some legitimate stores are paying ridiculous prices for product, third hand market, just to keep us supplied so that their other products are even viable. It might save their business. Without caps, a capper seems to be a bit superfluous, along w a bunch of other 'stuff' in your possibles bag. Flinters may grin smugly, but their hobby horse is no more immune to these predations than any other activity. Yes, black powder can be found sporadically. For now. SW

I put a #11 nipple in my Euroarms .54 Mississippi rifle and it's never going back to a musket nipple . Plus it can now share caps with my Walkers on a range trip

You can have baby formula or priming caps.

Not both.

What do you think America is? A first world country.

We will see. Their web page says add to cart or pick up in store. They only listed two of their three stores where they were available for pick up. I wouldn't think I would have been charged shipping if I was only reserving the caps to pick up in store. Order went through with shipping added and a confirmation number for shipping to my address.
Update: So those who are interested knows they're legit.

Just received the CCI #11 caps I ordered on 7 JAN, from Kentucky Gun Co., via UPS just a few minutes ago. $10.99 per hundred, no additional hazmat fee was charged. Also, just checked their webpage and they're still advertising them at the same price in stock with a flat rate shipping of $11.99.

When the Rem. caps once again become available i will stock up with a few thousand
