Well I screwed the nose cap up. And to beat all I have poured some fancy ones. It's like I have forgot everything. I'm assuming I gor the pewter to hot. The index card wrap was burned up and wood scorched. I cut away the bad and installed one of the pre formed sheet metal caps.

Which is sort of irrelevant when you're casting lead balls and then handling them when you are shooting.....

To you it may be irrelevant. I was speaking for anyone that might not even cast lead and are concerned of lead fumes.

I used stay-bright solder for a nose cap on a half stock several years ago and it still looks good.

I look at junk shops for pewter items that are dented etc and use them for casting. Often can get half pound for a dollar. I have some eating spoon molds and button mold that i cast.

Be aware that much “antique” pewter has a high lead content if lead concerns you.
