I grew up shooting muzzleloaders and got a .45 caliber Kentucky rifle and .45 Kentucky pistol for my 14th birthday. My father was a machinist in aerospace who enjoyed cannon building on the side and I had a ton of fun shooting those. I used to fill aluminum can with plaster to make projectiles for one of them, lol! Anyway, I sold off my black powder firearms in my twenties, and only returned a few years ago with the purchase of a Pietta 1858 New Army in .44 cal. To add to the collection I recently picked up a Cimarron Arms (Pietta) 1851 Navy Engraved in .44 caliber, which I know never "official" existed in that caliber but boy she is pretty. Our local gun show was last week and I bought a .50 CVA Hawken rifle in good shape, but that needs a little TLC. Why folks buy such things of beauty then neglect them I will never know. She's even loaded, so I've got to pull the ball tomorrow and see what kind of damage has been done. Otherwise the barrel looks good after I cleaned it out the best I could with the stuck ball still in it.

It's snowy and below freezing up here in North Idaho, but I can't wait for Spring and decent weather so I can go shoot the newer guns. I've enjoyed these forums for a while now, especially all the sage advice, and am happy to now be a member.
