As usual, I know that my work is not nearly as good as many members on this forum..

Just completed this rifle. Modeled after the Oerter Rifle. Ed Parry helped me out on wirework and engraving. I carved the griffin and completed all else.

Every rifle is an opportunity to learn and sharpen skills. This one was a blast to make. Love the Christian Springs style rifle and carving!

The original Griffin Rifle was completed by Johann Christian Oerter in 1774 at the Christian Springs rifle shop outside of Nazareth, PA. The original was made for William Marshall, the son of Edward Marshall. Oerter’s teacher was Andreas Albrecht, maker of the famous “Lion and the Lamb” Rifle. There are other rifles by Albrecht that had mythical beasts carver into them. My personal belief is that Albrecht’s fascination with mythical animals inspired Oerter with the Griffin Rifle. I have personally handled the original and consider the finest Longrifle I have ever seen.

Tremendous!

If it was the 1770's and you were buying new it would cost you about L8 or 3-4 month's salary. If you sell this for less than 3 month's wages, someone will get a bargain!
