Recently acquired an T/C Hawken .54 and wanted to learn more about the sport (Please excuse me if that is the wrong term) and shooting blackpowder. Also have a 1851 Colt .36. Again, Please excuse this greenhorn if I don’t use the correct terminology.

Welcome GM, from the state of Nebraska. My TC Hawken was the first muzzleloader I shot in competition.

The best way to get started is to find a local muzzle loader group or club and attend a shoot. Take your rifle and ask questions. A cowboy action match will have someone who can guide you on the pistol as well. Lots of people like to help.
