Hi Muzzle Loading Forum! My pen name is Sir James, and my persona is a well-heeled Englishman who's over here in the 1860s for some sport (hunting) and adventures on the Western Frontier! In real life, I once owned and shot a Thompson-Center Hawken carbine in .50 percussion, using Minie conicals, and a Pedersoli Pennsylvania rifle in .45 flintlock using patched round balls, but that was 40 years ago! I recall both those rifles gave exemplary service and were a hoot to shoot. I was eying a double-barreled shotgun next and trying to decide if I really wanted that much of a challenge to get it in flintlock, or if I was more interested in the hunt and so using percussion locks when Life got in the way. Fast-forward to the present, and for the past year, I've been learning the history of the War Between the States in quite a bit of detail, and it whet my interest in black powder firearms again. I started to look into getting a cap & ball pistol, and right away I stumbled upon a very reasonably-priced 2nd-Gen Colt 1860 Army in better than 99% condition. So here I am again, fixin' to shoot my new pistol and also explore new corners of the hobby/sport. Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself!
Best Wishes of the Season,
Sir James

Welcome from the talking rock bpshooters. You well heeled englishman hail from ? Or just working your way through georgia Sir James?

Thank you for the warm welcome! The persona I invented, "Sir James," was meant to be used to join the SASS, which I still have to do. I imagine "Sir James" as having the means to hunt all over the world, perhaps in India and Africa with military service in earlier times, and now (1861) as a visitor to our shores to hunt the Great Plains, when the War broke out! In real life, I live in Decatur, outside of Atlanta. My only black powder arm at present is my 1860 Colt Army, but getting back into the bp mindset and culture has sure been fascinating, and I can see a lot of possibilities for the future!
Regards,
Sir James
