Hello all,
Excited to join the forum. I’ve been wanting to get into flintlocks for quite some time now. Looking for my first one to shoot for pleasure and deer hunt with. As far as what I’m thinking about getting for my first, I’d really like something between the range of higher end production and used custom. Some of the works of art you guys put together are truly that, art. However I feel if I got a new one from one of the reputable makers I’d be too scared to take it outdoors and use the thing. I’m open to any information you guys can lend to a newbie, I’m a sponge!
Cheers and semper fi gentlemen,
-Seth

Thank you for the welcome fellas!
So anybody got a custom-ish rifle that won’t make me cringe if I scratch it up stalking deer?

Welcome, Seth,

If your sponge is dry it will swell. Glad to have you aboard. I have been at this for 6 or 7 years and I have yet to absorb all that these guys have to say.

Welcome,

Semper Fi!

If you are a lefty there is a nice .54 on the table right now.

If only! Right hand only for me. That one is a little out of my price range, although it’s gorgeous rifle. In a perfect, patient world I’m hoping to find a .45 caliber or larger used custom with perhaps some modest engraving but nothing crazy around the 1500 mark. Missed a nice .40 caliber on gunboards of all places by a few days but as long as I can find one before muzzleloader opening day I’ll be happy. Ive got a few guns and a beautiful Randall knife for trade bait waiting 😃. I’m just south of Fayetteville by the way, was hoping there would be some of you guys near by.
