Hey everyone!
Stuck here in Iraq without my flintlock and just wanted to keep up on everything. Home on leave back in Feb-Mar and had a good shoot but a ways to go now before I see her again.

Happy Trails,

DEJ

DEJ, Welcome to the forum, and THANK YOU for your service! Keep in touch-Flint50

I may be going over there in June for 2-4 months. Old job wants me to help out on a project. I can't take a rifle but I will be taking compact fishing rod. The wife at first didn't want me to go, but after I told her what they were going to pay she said... and I quote... " You better wear you SPF 45 sunblock, you burn easy." There all kinda love in my house.

Greetings DEJ o' the Sandbox. Well, maybe it's better that you don't have your smokepole with you. It'll probably warp and crack because it's so dry out there. You & your buddies stay safe.

Drop me your snail mail addy. I'll send you some articles on flintlock riflemen.

Gary

Hey everyone!
Stuck here in Iraq without my flintlock

Wouldn't that be a sight to behold, machine guns firing everywhere, then the crack of a longrifle and a cloud of white smoke...

Keep your head down...

Hey Slowpoke,
Your definitely right, the contractors are making mad money over here. You might have to change your name though, remember that speed and interval gets you through the IED's. I don't know about fishing, the banks of the Tigris and Euphrates may not be the best place to be without an armed escort. If your ever up Mosul way stop by FOB Endurance and look me up. Weather should be warming up by June time, right now day time temps are in the mid 70's with clear skies and no humidity-night time temps down to the 40's with cool breezes. Weather right now is actually really fantastic. Great hearing from you!

Musketman,
The crack of a long rifle would be the perfect exclamation point for the duh, duh, duh of ole MA DEUCE, MK-19's and the rip of a M249 SAW. Excellent! Thanks!

Gary,
Now, don't talk bad about my Matt Avance TVM .50 Late Lancaster in Premium++ Curly Maple with German Silver furniture, she's straight through and through and I would keep her safe in my sleeping bag at night. Ha, Ha! Would love some articles to read. Thanks for the offer and support!

Nope, but I used to be from the People's Republik of Kalifornia, until I moved six months ago.

I was in the big sandbox the first time around, back in '90-'91. I imagine it's no more fun for you now than it was for me then. Be careful over there, and welcome aboard!

Squirrelsaurus Rex,
Yeah, I missed Gulf War part 1! Spent those days TDY to the UK. Kuwait really sucked but northern Iraq is quite green this time of the year and we are actually enjoying ourselves tucked up inside the stockade here. The Apaches smoke anything that moves day or night and the local militia (ING-Iraqi National Guard) are pretty motivated and like to mix things up with the insurgents. Things are looking up and all my kids here are doing an excellent job. Thanks for the welcome and all the support!

DEJ: God keep you safe and bring you home soon. That said, I would think the north would be a better place to serve. Bet the mountains are something -- and from what I hear, the Kurds actually like us.
Are you seeing any old muzzleloaders over there?
A bunch of us over at Paleoplanet sent a care package of obsidian, antler flakers and copper hammers to a sergeant in Kuwait, who has been teaching some of the boys to make "arraheads" the old way. Bet that has raised some eyebrows among the natives.
